Hello group,
I am facing a difficult problem and maybe some incompatibility issues may
prevent my application from going live.

I have setu up Appeon on a Windows 2003 machine (I know it is an unsupported
vesrion). The application works fine inside the company and everyone can use
it. I have used Appeon Web server. I tried to make the appplication public
so someone from aoutside the company can use the application. The problem is
tha ISA server does not allow the user to see the application. So I tried to
set up Appeon with IIS 6.0 (Default on Windows 2003). I try to load the plug
in but I always get a status of unknown or down. This means that the site
cannot work.......

I need any ideas about what to do about the following:
1. Are there any configuration things I can do on ISA server in order not to
cut the application?
2. Is there a way to make the plugin run on IIS 6.0 and threfore publish the
application?

I will wait for your recommendations.

Kind Regards
Dimitris Karistinos

PS:I know Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0 are unsupported but due to customer
limitations I cant use something else....

One more thing to add,

I tried to configure the same thing on a windows XP machine with IIS 5.0

When I try to deploy the application during the final step of deployment I
get the following errors

I get more like this one.....In any case I tried to run the
application and what I got is a window prompting me about if I want to
download a file that had the name of my application.......What am I doing

Hi Dimitris,

You have raised three questions in your posts:
1) ISA server does not allow the user to see the application.
<ANS> Appeon engineers think that this should be related with the firewall
settings of the server. Please double check the firewalls settings.
Comparing with using IIS 6.0 with EAServer 5.0 (that hosts Appeon Server),
getting ISA server to work should be an easier option.

2) IIS 6.0 cannot be configured to work with Appeon Server.
<ANS> The configuration of IIS 6.0 with Appeon Server is the same as the
configuration of IIS 6.0 with EAServer. I checked EAServer 5.2 Release
Bulletin (http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1034623), and found that EAServer
5.2 have fixed a problem in EAServer 5.0 for supporting IIS 6.0 (CR 354062),
which means that EAServer 5.0 really cannot support IIS 6.0.

I suggest you not to try to use Appeon Server 2.8 with EAServer 5.2 yet.
The reason is that when Appeon Server 2.8 is released, EAServer 5.2 is not
available. So all the components of Appeon Server 2.8 are compiled and
tested with EAServer 5.0.

3) IIS 5.0 errors
<ANS> We think that the cause of the error is that the proxy server is not
set correctly. When you set the proxy in Internet Explorer for visiting Web
server, pay attention to the following two points: (1) Enable the option
"Bypass proxy server for local addresses". (2) In the IE proxy settings,
list the addresses that you do not want to use proxy in the Exceptions.

Furthermore, please carefully refer to the IIS Server settings section in
the Appeon Installation Guide for instructions on setting up IIS 5.0.

Regards,
Julie

Hello Julie,

I have tried a new installation on Windows XP with IIS 5. I followed
everything that the attached document says....You provided this to me on a
previous posting.

I have two things that need to be taken aunder concern

1. Two files mentioned in the document

libjeas_mod.dll

libjeasproxy_mod.dll

are not present in my installation
2. I managed to run -sort of- the application...... When I run it I expect a
login window to come up. What I get is a grey screen (as it should be) but
no where the login window so the application is useless again.....
Any ideas? i tried numerous things in my IE settings but nothing worked....

I will wait for your recommendations.

Kind regards

Dimitris Karistinos

I have not attached the doc in my previous mail...so here it is.

On more thing to add-correct.

As I told in my previous mail I cannot get the login window..... I found out
that i had an error in the cfg file. I had forgot to add the name of the
folder where the application was deployed in the Connector.WebApp and
Connector.IIS.URLS.

I did that, re-satrted and tried to access my app. I got a prompt for a
download like the one you can see in the picture attached......

If things were correct I should have got the application....

Any ideas? It is rather crucial to make it work....

Regards
Dimitris Karistinos

As turned out in my direct communication with Dimitris, he is using a 2.8
beta version so has encountered the problem. Once Dimitris updated to the
GA version, it works fine so far.

I would like to stress here the full version numbers of 2.8 GA build are:
1) 2.8 Advanced Edition: 2.8.3304
2) 2.8 Enterprise Edition: 2.8.4406

You can check the full version number by going to Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs. In the Programs list, click an Appeon component (for example,
Appeon Developer or Appeon Server), and read the support information of the
component. The support information contains the full version number.

Regards,
Julie
