Hi all,

I was reading some articles and ASA manual about ASA temp file(s), and I
could see that when the temp file is full the DB can stop/crashes.
I saw too, that there is some resources ( like the system proc
sa_disk_free_space, the db option temp_space_limit_check ) to
monitor/control the grow and usage of the temp file, beyond the database
server option -ut, but its proposal isn't clear to me.

My question is: Could I use it to clear the temporary file of ASA to avoid
the database server hang ? Am I correct ?

Many thanks.

Paulo

-ut touches the file (i.e., updates its timestamp and provides more current
file size information). The only way to manage temp file size is to design
the queries in such a way to reduce dependency on the temp file.
Alternatively, placing the temp file on a sufficiently sized local disk
(enough to meet the requirements for temp space) is how you handle this
case. The other options are to allow you to identify pending resource issues
before the server is stopped. You would still need to manually make space on
the disk if the engine requirements for temp space exceeds availalbe.

In addition to Chris' comments,
Also note that the -ut switch only applies to UNIX systems.

Also, another way to handle temp space is to use the
TEMP_SPACE_LIMIT_CHECK option that was introduced in 9.0.2.
