Hello,

I have a problem with reloading data into a new database from a reload.sql
script.
When the new database reaches a size of about 1,4 GB the dbisql stops with
an "OutOfMemory" error.
I monitored the system resources and it don't seem that there are to less.
In addition I found in then documentation to EBF 2542 that there was a bug
in reloading data and that it shoul be fixed with that EBF.

I'm using ASA Version 9.0.2 with EBF 3044 with a database which size is
about 4 GB.
When I run the discribed process on an Athlon XP 2600+ with 756 MB of RAM
all works fine.
The problem occures only on a board with two Intel Xeon processor an 2 GB of
RAM.

Best regards
Marcus Vatterott

Does dbisql generate a stack trace? If so, can you post it here?

Can you also try first running "dbisql -batch", which will generate a file
called "isqlj.bat" in the current running directory. Modify this batch file
to increase the amount of memory available to the JRE by adding "-Xmx600M"
to the JRE start line. We suspect that the JRE may be attempting to
allocate memory beyond what is available to a standard process in Windows
(coincidently around 1.4GB), and the switch above will limit the maximum
Java Heap Size to 600MB.

Hello,

I tried it with -Xmx600M start parameter for the JRE but get the same error.
Do you have any other ideas how to solve the problem?

Here is the generated stack trace which shows the same error as before:

I would not have expected that kind of error, during a load table
but I guess it may be reasonable give the H\W statistics you are
reporting.

You probably just need to increase the amount of free disk space
available in your temporary directory. [See ASA SQL User's Guide,
Monitoring and Improving Performance, Top performance tips,
"Place different files on different devices" for info. on how to
identify
your temp file location]

Of course starting the database server with a much larger cache
(see -ch switch) will always make this go a lot faster, as well.
Running on a much larger (and faster) machine would not hurt
either.

One thing to keep in mind about loading tables:

A reasonable minimum amount of cache to work from is
going to be the size of the table plus the size of the largest
index. Otherwise (especially when more than one index
is involved), pages will need to be swapped out and that
is going to introduce a lot more overhead and disk activity.

That's a reasonable rule-of-thumb I have used for a number
of years now. You can often get away with much less, but
performance definitely suffers.

If this does not help, then you may want to contact technical
support to help research if you have hit a new bug or not.
