Hi there,

We have set up an M-Business server for our application, and built a custom
launcher for Palm OS. What we would like to do is call the M-Business
Client (v 5.7) from our Palm launcher application program and direct it to a
specific server.

For instance, should a user click on an "AvantGo" icon, they would be taken
to their AvantGo server home page, but should they click on our "TrialStat"
launcher app, they would be taken to our server's home page.

It is my understanding, from working with the M-Business client and multiple
servers, that the M-Business program retains the state of the last user
session. If we were able to duplicate the parameter block that stores these
state settings, we could pass this block to the M-Business application
during launch and display the home page at all times, rather than the last
page the user visited.

Does anyone have any information regarding this parameter block? Has this
been attempted before, with success?

Thank you,

Richard Gerrard

The client does in fact store the user's last server and page in a
datastore, however there is no way to switch servers by a parameter sent to
the client. So unfortunately there is no way to do what you want to do.

Hi,

If the settings are stored in a 'datastore', then this should be easy to
open and modify, if the name of the datastore was known. Do you know
anything more about this?

I'm more inclined to believe the session data is kept in a preferences block
(see: http://www.xpinneret.com/cwu04-04.html), and I'd like to know the
structure of this block. Knowing this would allow a developer to write
their own parameters to pass to the application upon launch, substituting
given parameters for stored ones.

Seems like its simple but its really not. The problem comes from that a sync
server doesn't have a canonical definition like an URL. Its not the server's
network address and port, you can run more than one server on a single
machine. It can't be the username, there is no guarantee that usernames are
unique across servers. Its all of the above. So unlike a url launcher where
you can build into the launcher http://www.foo.com/ , the client must have
some canonical way of storing a server. This is a feature that would have to
be added in by iAnywhere engineering, it requires too much knowledge about
the client internals to be done otherwise.
