I have a database that is accessed by internet on port 2001 and intranet
using port 2002.
I have two networkcard in the server. Network card A is connected to a dsl
router with port forwarding to the servers IP. Network card B have a switch.
I was told by the manufacture of the router and switch to make this work I
have to set the network card B to obtain ip automatic and all computers
connected to switch B.
Now my problem is how do I make the alias in the ads.ini when I dont have an
IP address only port 2002 or is this not posssible?

Thanks,
Kim

Hello Kim,

Maybe I am forgetting something, but without a fixed IP address I do not
think it is possible to set up an alias for it in the ads.ini file. One
possibility, though, is to use connection paths of the form: \\youservername:2002\datapath\thedd.add

That will cause the Advantage client to perform a DNS lookup on the specified
server name to get the current IP address. It will then attempt to connect
using the discovered IP address with the given port number.
