I have a .NET web application that is able to connect to the
database running on ASA 7.0 server and using ASA 7.0 client,
but generates type casting exception errors when attempting
to retrieve data. This does not happen with ASA 8.0 or ASA
9.0. Is version 7.0 .NET compatible, and if so what could
be the cause of this error.

Can you be more detailed as the the aspects of the problem such as:

.NET version (I assume ASP.NET)?
Version and Build of ASA?
Version of the OS?
ODBC or ADO?
What is the exact text of the exception?
What is the statement that generates the exception?
Can you provide a code snipet that is executing when the exception occurs?

ASA7 was explicitly designed for .NET but both the ODBC and ADO drivers
should allow access to the database.

This has biten me a couple times so I'm going to post the solution for
future reference. I get a E_FAIL message as well.

I think the ASA 7.04 patch will fix this issue.
