Hi,

I successfully tried appeon trial version and my company
liked it. so they want to know more regarding this before a
purchase. so please help me by considering the below
concerns...This is very urgent.

1. I would like to know whether EAServer is necessary for
appeon deployment. can i use other servers instead of
EAServer?. that is, only Apache/IIS + Appeon Developer +
PowerBuilder will work for me? my company already have IIS &
Appache. they don't want to purchase EAServer. is it
possible?

2. What is the approximate cost of Appeon 3.0 with
Xcelerator option?. i contacted sales@appeon.net some one
week before, but no response yet. so please let me know an
approximate amount???. company want to know it as early as
possible.

3. If i purchase appeon 3.0 with Xcelerator option, what are
the components in it?. will that include EAServer also???

4. Our application PBL size is around 60 MB and using Oracle
9i as backend. It is based on PFC frame work and a corporate
layer is there in between PFC & PFE. and it is itilizing lot
of PFC functionalities and bit complex in nature. so i want
to know how effective this application can be converted
using appeon??.

please give me some explanations for my above concerns

thanks,
Gafoor

Short answer. No. You must have EAS (which comes with Appeon).

Appeon is built ontop of EAServer. Currently if you purchase Appeon and
install it will install EAS in the background. Technically Appeon could run
without EAS, but currently today this is the only way to purchase Appeon.
Using EAS allows you to also write PB components to allow processing in the
backend instead of in the browser.

My compnay would love to work up a quote for you. List price is $18,500 per
CPU.

Yes it includes EAS. We have done a couple projects now using the
excelerator and have been very successful.

Can't answer that question easily. I thought you stated up top that you have
evaluated the software and are please with Appeon? One of the project we did
had PFC and a heavy custom layer. We chose to rip out PFC and custom layer.
(Note we started with Appeon 2.8). Appeon 3,.0 supports much more so you
might be able to convert the app as is. So you need to look at the
application and decide how to convert. It's still a project to get
converted.

Also when moving to distributed environment you might chose to move
processing out to the server for performance reason and transaction reasons.
Logic that would run slow in the browser or have database calls in a loop
might be handled better on the server. We push calls to EAS using a couple
objects we developed to allow us to call eas very easily.

Is the $18,500 all inclusive of any licensing for EAServer and SQLAnywhere?
Thanks,
Randy

Appeon comes with EAServer. You can use EAServer for other components. You
must purchase Appeon per CPU. Appeon uses the ASA database for internal use.
The database is not licensed for other use. PowerObjects is always happy to
help companies work up a quote that best fits the projects needs.
