Hi all,

I have and application that runs fine on all pc's except for 1 XP Pro
machine.

I have a shortcut to the server where the .EXE is stored like this:

\\computername\sharename\myapp.exe

On this particular machine when i try and launch my .EXE i get an Advantage
Discovery Error and it cannot find the database.

If i change the short cut to point to the IP Address like this:

\\172.17.2.25\sharename\myapp.exe

It works but when you initially launch the exe you get an Windows "Open
File- Security Warning"....etc...

WindowsXP Firewall is NOT running on this machine.

Question:

Is this a NetBios/TCPIP Configuration issue? Any ideas? Anyone seen this?

Regards,

Michael

Can you ping the server by NAME (not IP) from the XP Pro machine? If so,
does the correct IP address come back?

If not, you can make an entry into your hosts file
(c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) Add a line like the following:

172.17.2.25 computername

Regarding the FileSecurity Warning, you might do a quick google or search on
Microsoft site on the exact error. I think there's a specific security
setting that you can make on the XP machine to disable the error.
