RAID and Cluster with ADS 6.2, Win2K ServerRAID

Hi. I?m in doubt and i need your help, pleeeeaaaasssseeeee.

Thinking to improve security on our Application (Delphi 7 Enterprise) that
runs Advantage Database Server 6.2 on Windows 200 Server.

a. HD Failure: I need to run ADS on RAID. My favorite is RAID1 but i need to
evaluate RAD5 for the best decision to our company.

b. Primary Data Server Failure: We need a 24x7 service, so we'll create a PC
Cluster with 2 nodes with Microsoft Cluster Server. Two PC servers will be
running with this configuration. The data must be saved on each server all
time without changing our Application code. If Primary Data Server fails
Secondary Data Server take its place with same IP Adress, name, etc. ? Would
i need to buy another 50 user licence for seconday data server ? ? How is
the correct configuration for ADS in this environment ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Xavier,

a. I've been using ADS on raid (1 and 5) since ADS6 (i'm currently on
7.1 passing by 6.11, 6.2 and 7) and never had problems with it (that would
relate to the RAID itself). I'm not network expert but I would say that
there will be no problems with it since I don't think ADS will fell the
difference RAID/NON-RAID ..:D
I also have clients running running ads on raid and no complaints so
far..

b. I never did clustering w/ ADS so I prefer to not opinate on this
one..

Hope that helps.. :)

Regards,
Marcelo

We had a lot of issues on diefferent RAID systems regarding the
software protection for international servers. This was one of the
reasons why the system was changed in ADS 7.1.
