I have PB 8.0.4 (build 10784), and I installed Appeon 3.0 trial as a single
development machine.
Now I am verifying installation (pages 27-28 of "Installing Appeon 3.0"),
and in particular in step 2, I can't "Open EAServer Manager and connect to
EAServer"
I have a DOS-like window named "Jaguar server", whose last messages read:

***
Starting services...
Accepting connections.
Done binding to all configured name servers.
***

But then I open EAServer Manager, select "Connect" and leave all default
(login: jagadmin, pw: <blank>, port: 9000) except I put 127.0.0.1 (or
localhost) as server name.
I always get the error message:

***
org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: localhost:9000- Connection refused
localhost:9000-jave-net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
vmcid: 0x0 minor code: 0 completed: No
***

What am I doing wrong?

TIA
Carlo

The error always occurs when you use incorrect information (includes use name, password, host name and port number) to connect to the EAServer.

Please ensure that the username and password you used is correct. I notice that you use the default settings when connecting to EAServer. The prerequisite of using the default settings is that you didn't specify user name and password when installing the EAServer.  If the error is indeed caused by the incorrect user name and password and you cannot remember the correct ones, I suggest that reinstall the EAServer and connect to it after the reinstallation.

If the problem is not caused by the user name and password, please perform the following steps:

1.      Open the setenv.bat file from the …\Sybase\EAServer\bin directory. Set the value of the JAGUAR_HOST_NAME variable using real IP address. For example:
set JAGUAR_HOST_NAME = 192.0.2.189

2.      Open the Jaguar_iiop.props file from the …\Sybase\EAServer\Repository\Listener directory. Set the value of the host using real IP address and set port number to 9000. For example:

com.sybase.jaguar.listener.port=9000

com.sybase.jaguar.listener.host=192.0.2.189

3.      Restart the EAServer to make the changes take effect.

4.      Login the EAServer.

If the problem still exists, please provide me with the Jaguar_appeonserveriiop.props and Jaguar_iiop.props files in the …\Sybase\EAServer\Repository\Listener directory.

Sally Li

Sally,
Still not working.
One detail that probably doesn't matter: the EAServer directory was not in
...\Sybase\EAServer\... but in C:\Program Files\Appeon\EAServer\...
The setenv.bat had JAGUAR_HOST_NAME=PIPPO (my machine's name), I changed it
to the numeric IP.
In Jaguar_iiop_props the port was set to 8080, I changed to 9000, and the
host address was something like ${JAGUARNAME}, I changed to the ip.
Then I tried connecting to the ip on port 9000, same error as before. I
tried using localhost or 127.0.0.1, same.
If I try "telnet PIPPO 9000" from another machine I can see that there is
something listening there.
Requested files below.

Thanks for the help, please help me more :-)

Carlo

Now that I look at it, I must add that the error message is now slightly
different:

or.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: 195.XX.XX.XX:9000- Connection refused
195.XX.XX.XX:9000-org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL: Bad GIOP magic vmcid: 0x0 minor

vmcid: 0x0 minor code: 0 completed: No

[I've hidden my ip for security, but it appeared in the error message.]

Any idea?

TIA

Hi Carlo,

Did you restart the EAServer after you made changes? This is very important step because changes will not take effort if you don't restart the EAServer.

If  the problem still exists after you restart the EAServer, please check the following item :
1.Verify  that the IP number 9000 is not reused. Otherwise, you have to specify another unused IP number, for example: 9100 . (Again, restart the EAServer after you make any changes)
2. Verify  that you use IP number in the setenv.bat and jaguar_iiop.props file.

Please let me know if the problem is still there and provide with setenv.bat ,  jaguar_iiop.props  and the Jaguar.log at %JAGUAR%\bin. (%JAGUAR% indicates the installation path of the EAServer that hosts Appeon Server)

Regards
Sally Li
