All new questions should be directed to the appropriate forum at the SAP Community Network (SCN).

Please don't attach files, they are a security risk as well as being
hard on folks with slow lines...

It probably should not have caused an assertion, but checkpoints are
suppressed while a backup is running, and ALTER TABLE forces a
checkpoint... perhaps the ALTER TABLE should have just waited.
