I'm using a clean install of Windows 2003 Server SP1 and
have installed ASA9 on the server. The installation went
fine.

I then went into Sybase Central to setup a new SQLAnywhere9
service which went fine until I went to start the service.
It begins to start up the service but hangs and gets stuck
with a status of "starting". It never starts.

I've gone through the same installation process on another,
clean Windows 2003 SP1 box and experienced the same result.

I have installed the product on my WinXP desktop and the
service starts on there.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

First, take the command line you would normally start the engine/server
with and try it from a command prompt. If it fails to start, hopefully
you will see a message box or some text for the error.

Second, add the -o file_name.txt to the engine command line so you can
check that.

Third, have it interact with the desktop.

Fourth, have it start under the same user account you are logged in as
instead of the System account.

Everything I indicate above is to figure out why it is hanging. Once we
have an error message to work with we can fix it and put it back the way
you want it.

Chris,

This normally means that something in your configuration is incorrect.
Check out your configuration, check all paths and all startup parameters.
Also make sure that you have the service being started by a local account or
other account that has privileges.

Regards,

Michael Gould
