When I start my database a "File is shorter than expected"
assertion error occured. What could be the cause of this?

This is what happened. The computer has two boot records one
win98 the other winxp. The default boot up is the xp os. The
database server run smoothly on the xp platform as well as
the database. A few days ago, the xp os wouldn't boot up it
only displays black. So we decided to boot the system up
with WIN98, the second boot record, so we can continue with
our business. The win98 has an autostartup for the database
service but when it didn't not continue and the assertion
occured. The file system which the database reside is
FAT32.

Hope you got the picture.

Help,

Chris Ceniza

The chances are that you had some filesystem corruption. That could also
explain why you couldn't start XP anymore.
