Hi,

I have a lot of complex reports. These reports work with more large indexed
table /dbf/. During working they have very much
"seeking" and certainly "skipping" in tables. So report work with large
amount of datas. /per table : 300-500MB 1-1.5 million records/
The problem that if i start running one of these reports the other terminals
slow down, almost halt! /The report goes well./ No error message
but at this case it is not possible to work on other terminals because of
slowing. This is right even if report does not works with filtered table !
This software in xHarbour with Ace32 + ADS at present.

Originally this softwrare made in clipper and works under ads earlier.
It is interesting that above written slowing down was sensible under clipper
but it was possible to work on other terminals.

My opinion is that these reports have a lot of database positioning
operation but i do not understand why causes this such dramatical
slowing down.

Where should i seek for the solution of the problem : hardware /more RAM
etc./ or software ... ?
Any hint ?

Regards,
Lajos

Hello,

You may need to check the CPU utilization on the server. Other the
terminals running a process that rely on that server? If so, that process
is probably not getting CPU time.

To lower the CPU, I'd recommend packing the table with the Advantage Data
Architect. Also, you may need to build some additional indexes. Also, check
the ADS_ERR.DBF for possible errors.

I hope this helps.
