MBusiness 5.5 / Ultralite

Our application use bar code reading. We use the POD available for
Symbol PDA. We want to use other PDA with bar code reader or imager
(like Intermec, PSION, Opticon) and we are trying to write a POD for
these PDA (we test with the Symbol POD and obviously it does not work).
There is no problem to trigger the reader with a soft button (a picture
or a link on Business).
BUT, we'd like to use hardware button to trigger the reader and catch
this event with the onScan event (<input onscan="loadScanData(this)"
type="text" >).
Is this JS handler (onScan) specific to the Symbol POD ?
Is it possible to develop a POD able to catch hardware events or events
sent by other software ?

Thanks,

Pierre

I believe the onscan event is added in by the symbol POD. So your POD would
have to add that event in by sub-classing the window procedure and handling
the relavent window messages from the Intermec Scanner API (This is assuming
that the Intermec API is similar in spirit to the Symbol API).

If you sub-class the window procedure, then you can catch all the window
messages and trigger specific events based on them.

I do not believe there is anything directly in the PODS API to allow you
to override the OS behaviours of the hard buttons. iAnywhere
Professional Services has accomplished this by "hacking" the win32 API,
but our solution is just that, a "hack".

I unfortunately don't have access to the API docs right now, but I
*think* there is a way to post a JS event from within a PODS, or at
least a way to communicate back to a page...but I don't remember exactly
off-hand. I'm sure a more experienced member of the MBA community
(Enrico, you there?) will jump in to clarify.

OK, thank you for this answer.
But could you explain the way you speek about ? We need to create a JS
event (onScan or another application specific event, if possible) within
a PODS, then post it so that JS will be able to catch it. How can we do
that ? Is it related to PODSEventMgr, etc. ?

Thanks for your help
