Are you an OEM who is shipping ASA with your product? If so, please read
the "Adaptive Server Anywhere Authenticated Edition Read Me First"
documentation. It outlines how you need to configure your database and
connection to avoid this error. Please note, this software is not
generally used for development (save for testing) as your ability to
interact with the database will depend on whether the connection has
been authenticated.

If you are an end-user of a product that includes ASA, your access to
databases hosted on that engine is restricted. Ask your vendor for
details of that restriction but it is generally read-only access outside
of the vendor application.

Otherwise, you have overwritten your ASA install with an OEM version of
ASA. You may need to reinstall to correct.

The -98 will be reported for any unauthenticated connection. If this
error is reported only for a single table, you are either not updating
the other tables or your interaction with the other tables is on a
separate connection. The reason is that the authentication status is for
the connection. Note: The error will only occur if you perform an action
that violates the limitations i.e., read-only access.
