hi teams,
we have a webdeveloper distance working who has been sucessfully making
embedded database sql transactions via AIS to a database ( 8.1) on our
server. That was from a .Net application.

He wanted to use ADS Architect and downloaded same from the ADS site.
Made a new connection using the same connection string but gets
disconnection / timeout problems. see his msg below signature.
any ideas?

in this data architect, I get good connection, but if I don't do
anything in there for say 5 mins and try to open a table, I get errors
that he cannot find server anymore. Doesn't he do a auto reconnect,
instead of crashing on me?
maybe you have had same problem and know a good solution.
lothar

Dean Winston Mohandas says:
hi lots, re the architect disconnecting, i'm gonna post a message in the
advantage forum. could you let us know what driver you are connecting
thru, are there any settings for the driver?
Screeny says:
which driver, hmm, a sec, I just entered that connection string in teh
data architect, as described in your word doc
Screeny says:
I was using it yesterday evening without any problems realy. so, busy
and calm periods definatly have something to do with it
Dean Winston Mohandas says:
in theory u should not get any problems busy or otherwise so i'll post
msg on the forum. you can see the progress of the post

in short, what can cause data architect 8.n to lose AIS connection after
5 minutes?

8.1 is not released yet. So the first possible reply from a 8.1 server
will be in late summer ;)

During an active connection, the client sends 'still alive' packets to
the server. If the server doen't get that 'keep alive' packets for some
minutes, it disconnects the user (default is 4 minutes -> 240 seconds).
It's hard to tell what really causes the packets from being sent to the
server (or what causes the reply not to come through). It could be that
the internet connection just goes into a sleep state if there's no
action on the line for some time and therefore the reply is too late.

result and conclusion. The web developer's reply to Joachim's post is
"Could have been the problem, because I haven't had that problem since
that frst day." .

And it's true to say we don't yet have 8.1 :-)
