for some reason now I am unable to connect to the server using the ip
address format:
\\192.168.2.100\dbdata\xxxx

this used to work but now if I sepecifiy the server name
\\databaseServer\dbdata\xxxx then it connects although it takes a while.
Any ideas why as I'd expect the ip address to be ok.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure why it would stop working. You've probably checked these
already, but is the server's address still 192.168.2.100? If it was rebooted
and is using DHCP, it might have started up with a different address. Can
you connect if the port is specified (e.g., \\192.168.2.100:6262\dbdata)?
The port number default is 6262 but can be configured at the server in the
config utility. Also, is ADS running? If not and the server type is set to
allow local server, maybe the connection string with the server name in it
is failing to connect but is falling back to local server.

Finally, if you get a communications trace (adscom.txt) and send it to us;
we might be able to determine the cause. You can use Advantage Data
Architect (Tools\Environment Check Utility). Type in the connection path
and click Start. It should produce and adscom.txt file that will show
details about the connection attempt.
