I'm a newbie in SQL anywhere.
I need to connect to an old Sybase SQL Anywhere 5.5.04 database.

I've tried to connect running a Network Server. I configure it for
listen at 1498 port (default), but it connect at 1498 UDP port.
Then, I can't connect through this server because it returns
IOException: Connection refused.

Can I connect to database without run a server ?
Can I connect to database through the database file ?

I've tried todo with jtds, jconnect 5.5 and jconnect 6.05

Thanks in advance.

You will need to run the open server gateway to host this database

The process is well documented in the manuals. Is there are particular
reason you are running v5? It has been quite awhile since that version was
supported. The newer versions include a JDBC driver and the v5 database
will run on a v9 server.

Take a look at this section of the 5.5.x docs:

SQL Anywhere User's Guide

PART 4. Transact-SQL Compatibility

CHAPTER 32. Using the Open Server Gateway

Setting up the Open Server Gateway

Is there a particular reason why you are working with 5.5.x? That version
has been end of lifed for several years. The current released version is
9.0.2 with our 10.0 release currently available in Beta.
