We have written a PowerBuilder 9 application that connects
to an authenticated SQL Anywhere 8.0.3 database. About once
a week the Windows 2003 Server that hosts the database locks
up and any attempt to connect to the database results in the
following error "Found server but communication error
occurred".

The database is abount 7 Gig in size with about 425 tables.

Anyone know why we get the above error message?

You said that the Win2Kserver "locks up". Have you identified the root
cause of that issue?

If the OS is hung/not responding on the server machine where your database
server is running then the database server certainly won't be able to
respond to any client requests.

The OS is not locked up, only the Database Server. The database server is
not spiking the memory of the CPU at all, it just will not let anyone
connect to a database.
