Hi there.

I have recently inherited an old application, using a Watcom
3.2a database, created and maintained in PowerBuilder 3.0.
Although old, the system has worked fine, and the previous
maintainer has not wanted to or had had the opportunity to
upgrade.
I have been able to maintaining the database through PB3.

However the hard disk of the development machine has just
crashed and I still need to do some changes to the Watcom
database (until we can remake the application in a more
modern version).

I have a copy of the database file and the log file on
another machine.

Can someone tell me how I can edit the database without
having access to the machine with PowerBuilder 3.0?
Is there some way to edit the database in another tool?
Watcom SQL? Does it exist? Where can I find it?
How about SQL Anywhere?

It is important to not upgrade the database version in any
way, as that would prevent me from distributing it to the
user machines running the actual application.

If there is anybody with some experience with these old
versions of he tools or some suggestions/solutions to how I
can edit the Watcom database it would be greatly appreciated
if you could let me know.

This file is encoded and will need software that understands
that encoding. As far as I know the only software that can
do that is one of our engines or servers.

I remember running verison 5 and 6 engines with that old a
database before but I don't have that old a database file to test
so I cannot say if it will work with the latest products without
some conversion steps. If you cannot find the diskettes for the
V3.2 software, (or something a little newer) you might be able
to register and download the developer or evaluation software
from

www.ianwhere.com

to see if that can read the file for you.

I do know that Sybase Central will not work with it 'as-is' but
you may be able to use dbisql or dbisqlC.

If that much works, you should be able to upgrade a copy of it
using dbunload (-an) [which should the give Sybase Central access
now].
