Was the issue that was raised back in a post from 11/14/2005 "A lot of
Connections and permission denied" ever addressed?
I am running WS 1.5 against ASE 12.5.x and am still getting "Save to db
faile: java.sql.SQLException: User "dbo" does not have same permission"
messages.

I am connecting as a user that is aliased as dbo in the database. This is
exaclty the same problem.

For obvious reasons, I cannot connect to ASE as 'sa'...not allowed here!!!

Please help!

Thx
Nick

This isn't really a WorkSpace problem. At least, I don't think
it is.

Can you connect as the same user with isql or some other
interface and check the permissions in that database, your
permissions, etc.?

Why would you say this ISN'T a workspace problem?
I mentioned a previous post where it was.
I think there were issues with ASE Aliases, etc.

isql working fine over here.

OK, enable auditing and have a look at what WorkSpace is
passing when you get the error.

BTW: Can you give me the version string of your ASE?

I want to make sure I'm going against the same version.

Also, FYI, WorkSpace only supports ASE 12.5.2 and later.

thanks,
mike

I'm attempting to recreate this, but I'm not succeeding. Please confirm
that these are the proper steps.

USE ISQL AND LOGIN AS SA:
sp_addlogin crocker, crocker
go
use interpubs
go
sp_addalias crocker, dbo
go

CONNECT WITH WS, CONNECTION PROFILE HAS username/password AS crocker/crocker
attempt to create stored procedure in interpubs database

Any input you can supply will be appreciated.

thanks,
mike

Version string is
Adaptive Server Enterprise/12.5.3/EBF 12597 ESD#3/P/HP9000-879/HP-UX
11.0/ase1253/1911/64-bit/FBO/Fri Jul 8 13:35:37 2005

All I can tell you is that the user id I am using to login is aliased as dbo
in the database.
Not sure about the syntax of the login creation since I am not a dba
here...but I checked and also had it checked...definitely aliased as dbo.

ISQL works fine. I have dbo rights in that database using that user id.
I also have another SQL tool and the userid is fine. SP creation, deletion,
you name it...I can do it.

But not in WS 1.5.

We are currenlty evaluating this product for a number of things...inlcuding
SQL development. (Along with Java)
If we have to login as 'sa' this is definitely a show stopper and I would
not recommend this product.

WS is so slow when it comes to ASE Schema navigation. Takes forever to get
it to list out all the procs in the database. That's already
semi-show-stopping...but not quite there. But the alias problem will
definitely put it over the top and would stop me from recommending and go
with another product.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nick

I finally reproduced the problem. It looks as it is specific to 12.5.3.

I am now looking into getting you a quick fix.

In terms of performance, we are aware of the performance issues with the
schema navigation and we are taking steps to correct it. You will find a
vast improvement with post 1.6 release.

What are your approx object counts for different types?

thanks,
mike

In the particular DB that I am working on, we have over 600 stored
procedures.
It takes a while for WS to work through all that to display the list of
SP's.

As I indicated, we are making improvements in this for our next release.

Right now you have the option to set how (the number under each folder) the
stored procedures are grouped in the Enterprise Explorer. The preference
can be found under Window->Preferences...

Then go to Sybase, Inc->Enterprise Explorer->Database Connection Profile.

You can play with the number to see if you like the results better.

What's the timeframe for the "Post 1.6" update?
We are evaluating right now so the thinking is always "NOW".

We have guys using different products for SQL Development and we are trying
to consolidate.
WS is a candidate...but the 2 issues so far would definitely not fly with
people here.

So the quicker the better...
