Hello,

Can Sybase change the parallel processing such that the following can
occur?

>>>>> New configuration parameters:
EXEC sp_configure "default parallel degree"
-- Specifies the server-wide maximum number of worker processes allowed per
query that the optimizer will consider. Must be less than the configured
"max parallel degree".

EXEC sp_configure "default scan parallel degree"
-- Specifies the server-wide maximum degree of parallelism for hash-based
scans that the optimizer will consider. Must be less than the configured
"max scan parallel degree" parameter.

>>>>> BATCH/SESSION OVERRIDES TO THE OPTIMIZER
SET parallel_degree NUMBER (<= "max parallel degree")
SET scan_parallel_degree NUMBER (<= "max scan parallel degree")

>>>>> Behaviour Supported
Can specify:
EXEC sp_configure "max parallel degree", 5
EXEC sp_configure "max scan parallel degree", 5
EXEC sp_configure "default parallel degree", 1
EXEC sp_configure "default scan parallel degree", 1

All queries will be use serial I/O unless overwrites occur at the session
level. Maximizes performance of systems that use a mixed OLTP and DSS
system.

Can specify for my DSS queries at batch level now:
SET parallel_degree 3
SET scan_parallel_degree 3

Thanks,
