I am using an Alien 9780 and have already installed the
connector and is working. I was wondering if anyone knew how
to get data from the reader and send it directly to an Excel
file.

We don't have any code samples or messaging connectors to do this, but when
you write custom business modules in C# and install them into RFID Anywhere,
you can pretty much do anything within that business module. It is only a
few lines of code to write tag data to a database using available database
drivers, but I'm not familiar with anything similar for Excel off-hand.. but
if there are some .NET APIs that can help, you should be able to use them
within your business module.

Otherwise, there might be some steps to open up an XML-based ALE or Report
Engine MP report in Excel.

Do you have some existing processes that really require Excel, or is this
for a proof-of-concept? Obviously, persisting some data in a database can
give you a lot of flexibility, from integrating with other apps, building
web reports, etc.

Hope this helps, and feel free to follow up with more project details or
things you've tried.

Matt..

If you write an small BM and put a column delimiter \t and row delimiter \n
while you are storing the file (as a text file) Excel will import file as a
known file type and will place data in the correct way.
