I need some help with this. I have an application that usese the AIS to
connect to an advantage database server running on windows 2k.
Intermittantly the client application returns:

390643.920 3844 ____MapWinsockRetCode____
390654.352 3844 WSAGetLastError : 10060 Hex: 0x0000274C

As recordered in the ADSCOM.txt file. See full text below. I'm not sure
what is going on. some times everything works with out errors and then
other times this happens every hour or so.

Any assistance would be greatly appriciated.

Current ADS version 6.2, I'm not sure what dll verison the clients have
installed but the dates are 8/30/2002.

Hi Kevin,

Is the 10060 error returned to the client? Or does the application get a
6602 error? Is there any certain type of operation that seems to cause the
error?

You might try a couple of different ads.ini settings. If it is a simple
timeout issue due to a poor network connection, it might work to increase
the MAX_TIMEOUTS value. Maybe set it to 60. It seems to me that the
default value (I think 30) should be fine, but this might be worth a try.

The other one is the PACKET_SIZE setting. Maybe set that to 512 to ensure
that no packet fragmentation is occurring and causing problems.

Mark,

The client goes into an endless 10060. No ADS errors returned or at least I
haven't had the patients to wait that long. I'm thinking this could be
networking issues with the ISP. I setup a VPN to the server last night and
that worked but the VPN was timing out. So there may be some router configs
I need to do. I have the following settings in the ADS.ini file at the
client side. I've tried various iterations of these settings and it still
seems to perform the same.

[settings]

RETRY_ADS_CONNECTS=1

PACKET_SIZE=512

COMMCALLTRACE=1

COMPRESSION=Never

MAX_TIMEOUT=60

What about router MTU settings vs ISP MTU settings? Could the server have
corrupted winsock dll's? or infected dll's?

Is there some specific operation that the application performs when this
occurs? Or is it completely random? For example, does it occur after doing
an update, after reading a large piece of data, sitting idle for a while,
etc.?

I wouldn't think it is related to the MTU settings; the PACKET_SIZE=512
setting on the client would keep the total packet size below any normal
minimum size settings. It also does not seem likely that the winsock DLLs
are corrupted (the problem would more likely be permanent rather than
intermittent in that situation).

Is this a new problem? Was it working and then something changed? Are
there firewall changes? It could be that the firewall is not allowing the
response through if takes "too long". Make sure that the configured AIS
port allows UDP packets through.

Mark,

From what I've seen It seems to happen when code is doing a query to
make sure a few key parts of the header updated successfully. The user
has mentioned that if the system is left for awhile it will exhibit the
behavior upon returning. But most of the time the failure seems to
happen in the same location. I'm in the process of adding some tracing
capabilities to see exactly what operation the app is failing at.

Thanks for the assistance.

Kevin
