No thanks ... Sybase already has one for a long time ... PowerBuilder!

With the PowerDesigner plug-in, ASE native drivers, EAServer support for
BO's and Web Services this software is 1st class. -:)

Chris,

All the things you describe as being first class in PB are what are now in
Workspace too. Sybase has implemented the PowerBuilder SQL editor into
Workspace, which is an Eclipse based IDE. This brings some of the great
capabilities of PB to the Java development environment.

Regards,
John

True, but all my clients are going .Net and hence have no use for WS or
Java.

Now PB 11.net - that's another story -:)

FYI ...

Note: PB 11 has the new "ASE" native DB driver (replaces SYC) and also
supports Microsoft SNC (SQLServer Native Client) for SS2005 native DB
access. Initial testing has shown an exponential speed increase over OLE-DB
or ADO.net using SNC and, around 10-15% better response times under heavy
load using the "ASE" vs SYC for PB/DB driver interaction with ASE 15 ESD#2.

Regards ... Chris
PS: Beats the *&^#% out that JDBC crap <bg>!
PPS: New "ASE" db driver is now also available in PB 10.5.1 (MR).

Too bad that locks them into the one, rather limited platform.

Most senior management is directing them that way. Thy have the same
mentality of the old mainframe days - "No one ever gets fired by choosing
IBM". A sad but true statement today with Microsoft.

In Martial Arts we have the saying: "The big tree breaks in the storm, while
the young tree bends in the wind and survives" <bg>.

The blind leading the blind.

I think it was a Judo saying about young sapling branches
bending under the weight of snow on them but I did Chinese
martial arts so I wouldn't know for sure.

I agree that PB and PD are great tools!

That's why WorkSpace has integration with both.

But WorkSpace is the only development tool targeted to the Sybase Platform:
ASE, Rep Server and IQ.

In addition it offers core SQL development features not found in PB or PD,
such as stored procedure and trigger debugging.
