Can tcp/ip communication type just be set in the ads.ini in the settings
section like:

[Settings]
CommunicationType=tcp/ip

This is how the ads.ini for ARC 8 looks when I set a database in there like
that.

Also, what are the best resources for using the ads.ini, its syntax,
settings, etc?

Hi Howard,

The following help entry gives all the details about forcing the client to
use TCP/IP through the ads.ini file.

http://devzone.advantagedatabase.com/dz/webhelp/Advantage8.1/server1/ads_ini_file_support.htm

The short answer is add the following entry to your ads.ini file.

[SETTINGS]
USE_TCP_IP=1

Best Regards,
