Hi,

I've deployed a PB10.2 client application through appeon 3.1 and the
performance is ok in hk where the server also located in hk.

However, when I deployed the application to indonesia's users and shanghai's
users, the performance becomes slow. For example, when user type a word into
a datawindow column, user has to wait for few second until it finally shows
in the databox.

Pls help.

Steve

Hi,
If the network is in normal conditions and there is not many
database or network interactions, usually, the distance will
not have any obvious impact on the response speed.

I'd like to bring your attention to below two points:
First, This problem my occur if the network speed is
relatively slow, and the PB code brings about frequent
network interaction when typing, for example, database query
are required on pressing every key.

Second, The recent earthquake broke the communications
cable, and cause great trouble to Internet use in many areas.
This cable is not totally recovered yet.

Hi Steve,

I am not a network guy but I heard HK colleagues told me that this may be
the misconfiguration of MTU. I suggest you can ask the network guy to see
this.

Thanks
KA

I've replied to you in that original entry. The cause you
mentioned is also strange to me. Let me check it with our
network guy.

Hi Vicent,

Could you explain more about PB code brings about frequent network
interaction when typing ? If so, this will have a serious impact to the
performance.

Thanks
KA

Hi,

I suspect the slowness is caused by real time column validation. Pls check
the datawindow column validation rule. Try to avoid puting function there,
instead, you can put the validation rule at the 'SAVE' process.

I have deployed my application in remote cities in Indonesia where the
internet maximum speed can reach up to 28kpbs only by dial up modem. The
tricks are all in the PB coding, try to avoid generate traffic from client
to server back and forth.

And indeed my application works with the speed of as low as 28kbps.
