Recap

One of our (ex)System ASdministrators put some nasty anti
virus software on my machine whilst I was out which
effectively killed it, and it could not be gracefully
removed.

So it was back to square one and a reinstall of XP SP2 with
all upgrades to bring it current.

I then reinstalled WorkSpace 1.6 (over the existing
directory), added the servers, installed the relevant EBFs,
downloaded the latest JRE and cleared the Eclipse memory.

I have a plethora of plug in erroirs when I start WorkSpace.
So I am thinking of uninstalling Workspace and Servers,
removing the old Sybase directory and reinstalling from
scratch.

Can anybody tell me, please -

1. is there a better way of doing this
2. what do i have to look out for.

Can you please check if you switch WorkSpace, if these
errors go away? To do this:

1. Start WorkSpace
2. Go to File --> Switch WorkSpace
3. Give a new WorkSpace name

Robin,

Have you resolved this problem, or still need help?

Right I'm back from my trip and I badly need to get
WorkSpace operating properly as I need to get a demonstrable
front end sooner rather than later.

I still have difficulties, which are tending to worsen
ratherthan lessen. I followed your suggestion to set up a
new clean workspave directory. I still have the problem. I
have modified the start .bat file as directed (java rather
than javaw) and have tried clearing Eclipse. No joy.
Presently, Work Space does not install the Enterprise
Modelling modules, and without knowing the filestructure, I
am unsure aboutr installing it directly into WorkSpace, from
my 12.1 download.

I suspect that I have uninstalled and reinstalled too many
times, just to confuse everybody.

Incidentally, when I start WorkSpace, I do not see the
opening screen with the circular arrows showing all the
different modules, nor does it say anything about the
licence.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated, I have my backend
build and would like to proceed with the front end prior to
taking the demo on the road.

This is all getting a bit 'hard' (grin)

Thanks again

Robin

Robin,

When you did the reinstall (after your virus software incident) did you
first uninstall both the WS tooling and Development Edition Servers? If
not, I would recommend that you do a complete uninstall and then delete the
install directory. A complete uninstall will consist of running BOTH the WS
tooling uniinstaller and the Developement Edition Servers uninstaller. Once
you are done with both uninstallers then delete the install directory.

You wouldn't necsarrily see the initial start up screen with the circles and
arrows. Your project location saves your last setting and will attempt to
bring you back that that setting when you restart WS.

SIDE NOTE: you do NOT need to remove your project location when you
uninstall and reinstall.

Yes, I made sure to do a complete uninstall of WS and
Servers, although one of the components didn't want to
uninstall (was it UO?), despite having several goes at it.

I was suspicious that I didn't get a message about the
licence when I started after reinstalling.

Having done this several times now, it no longer installs
the modelling components......

I would really like to get this working properly, I have the
back end done and I need to be able able to have something
to demonstate, 'real soon now'.

Are there any registry entries which hang around and cause
problems?

Thanks again

Robin:

Just to fix your problem in the short term - if we were to get you a
copy of a VMWare image that you could run with VMPlayer, would that work
for now?

(VMPlayer is free - and the VM would be a completely separate OS with a
fresh WS installation.)
