Have I missed something.

It would certainly help me if there were some schematics of
how Eclipse/WorkSpace is organised - where it expects to
find what.

I don't think its me, but stuff gets scattered all over the
machine, across both my C: and D: drives - as Windows is
installed on the C drive. Then the registry, have you seen
how many entries there are ......

And stuff gets left in different 'workspace' directories -
perhaps there should be an instruction to create a single
Workspace Directory and set up Projects as sub directories
from there.....

Robin

Sorting this all out when there are problems would be easier
when there are some diagrams to refer to. Along with a
'model' architecture and required environment variables and
paths.

To be honest, I have come to be very cautious about java,
its seldom as smooth as it ought to be.

The directory structure of installed WorkSpace is documented in WorkSpace
Installation guide. Some extra information is also available in Eclipse
documentation if you like more information.

Can you elaborate what you are finding scattered outside of the your Sybase
WorkSpace install directory folder?

As for registry entries for WorkSpace tooling, there are 2 under WorkSpace
folder - one for PowerDesigner and other for DB Components. There are some
CLSID entries that get added. Are you referring to those when you are
referring to many registry entries? Those are needed for the various
functionalities of the WorkSpace components and runtime servers to work on
Windows.

The stuff in 'workspace' directories is left there intentionally by
WorkSpace uninstaller. Those 'workspace' directories are your local user
work space that contains their projects and dev resources. Even though the
name 'workspace' looks close to 'WorkSpace', it is infact a mechanism
provided by Eclipse platform for storing various dev resources (artifacts).

The projects are created in the 'workspace' folder location (which ever
happens to be current one in use). You might have created different
'workspaces'. The projects are therefore separated in those directories. You
can switch workspaces by choosing "File|Switch Workspace" option. Again,
that is also intentional so that users can have separate projects by
workspaces. You see projects in WorkSpace Navigator that exist in current
'workspace.'

This information is available in installation guide. Your comments are
welcome to improve its content after you review it. AFAIK for tooling, there
is only one entry added to the PATH environment variable. Please note that
various runtime servers have their own installation guides which have
additional details on their installation.

Samir
