Ok, I'm going to ask a bit. Just need answer to feasibility and where to
look for proper information.

Environment:

ADS server 7.1
xbase++ version 1.9
.Net 2003, frame work 1.1 going to the newest 2.

The company has grown, are main billing system is in ADS, but everything
else is in SQL server 2005. I needsare to start writing the data to SQL
databases realtime.

My question: Can I write a trigger that will update the SQL databases. We
use objects to do the updates, but I can use sql directly if needed. We use
standard DBF format, without the Data Dictionary.

I'm thinking that I can write a trigger use C# then register it on the
Database server, and if I caught the info right I have to have an
application that connects to the DataDictionary. Do I have to have a
connection to the files thru the DD?

If this is possible and if there is existing docs I would appreciate if you
can point me to them... If it is not, I would appreciate knowing that also,
and any work arounds you know of...

Thanks for your time and have a good day.

Chris Shook.

Hi Chris,

Yes, the application updating the DBF files would need to make a data dictionary
connection, otherwise the triggers won't fire.

I'm not sure what you mean by "we use objects to do the updates", but if
you mean you just do direct record updates, that is fine. Advantage triggers
fire whenever a record is updated, no matter if the update is done directly
or via SQL.

What you want to do is certainly possible. You might want to start with the
trigger tutorial to get an idea of how to create the c# trigger:
