We are distributing the OEM version of SQLAnyWhere 9. Previously we were
using 9.2.33?? (I think it was 3343 or 3345).
Just tried to update all clients to 9.2.3500 (downloaded from Sybase
I applied to patch to OEM software and then distributed as usual.

Clients are reporting that the engine is refusing connections indicating
that the number of licenses has been exceeded.
Investigations indicate that the network executable (dbsrv9.exe) is not
licensed which is to be expected since the executable was replaced by the
But we are unable to execute dblic to re-license the exe (see below).

C:\Program Files\My Prog\SA9\win32>dblic.exe -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 10
dbsrv9.exe "My Name" "My Co"
Adaptive Server Anywhere Server Licensing Utility Version
Unable to license executable 'dbsrv9.exe'

I am unable to run dblic on test machine in the lab as well.

In current versions, dblic should be run against the .lic file
(licensing file). See the EBF readme file for details:

The section of interest is:

================(Build #3439 -
Engineering Case #455977)================

License information for the Network Server (dbsrv9.exe), Personal Server
dbeng9.exe), Runtime Server (rteng9.exe) and Mobilink server
(dbmlsrv9.exe) are now contained in a separate .LIC file, rather than
inside the executable file. The license file is stored in the same
directory as the executable file. When dblic.exe is run, specify the
name of the .LIC file instead of the .exe file that needs to be licensed.

Note, when deploying any of these executables, the .LIC file will need
to be deployed as well
