Hi All,

There is a famous award winning software dundas for drawing
chart control for .Net applications. Is there any
possibility we can use this software in PB, if you have any
idea please let me know.

Thanks in Advance,

John

John,

PB11 supports NET interop for nonvisual components. Support for visual
components is scheduled for PB12. I don't believe you can embed a .NET
control in a PB application.

Regards,
John

Well, actually you can.

Microsoft recently released the 2.0 version of the Microsoft Forms
Interop Toolkit. One of the major features of the 2.0 version is that
it does interop for controls now too.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/aa701259.aspx

Although Microsoft intended if for folks using VB6, it generates a CCW
for the .Net visual control. So you can use the resulting wrapper in
anything that supports ActiveX.

I've used it to wrap a gradient control I created in VB.Net, Dundas
Charts, and an Infragistic Charting object. I put the source code for
those samples at:

https://powerbuilder.codexchange.sybase.com/files/documents/67/2693/vbinterop.zip

That also includes a XAML control I wrote, wrapped and displayed in
PB, but I've found it rather unstable. I'm not sure that the problem
is with my XAML control, with the Interop Toolkit not working with
XAML controls, or something else.

I've got a PBDJ article coming out on it. Although it comes out of
the box with support only for creating the wrapper from VB.Net, a
couple of folks have devoped add-ins that make it accessible from C#
as well and have posted them on CodeProject.

It pays to keep up with CodeXchange. Sorry I missed it. Thanks for all the
great samples you provide on CodeXchange.

John

Well, I only uploaded it two days ago, so you're not exactly that far
behind. This is also the first I'm made any mention of it publicly.

Also, FWIW, Microsoft intended the Interop Toolkit as a temporary
measure until people migrated their VB applications to .Net. I
believe that particular approach is reasonable, and a similar approach
is appropriate for PowerBuilder usage. When PB12 allows for direct
usage of visual .Net controls, that approach should be adopted. Until
then, the Interop Toolkit gives you a half a step in that direction.
