I am installing 8.1 on an Internet based server.
Win Server 2003 x64 edition SP 2.

I have selected Auto Start for the service and all appears to install
correctly.

However when I run Configuration Utility, it shows ADS Service not started.

When I press Start Service, I get an error 'An instance of the service is
already running'

An instance of Ads.exe appears in Task manager.

If I stop it using Task Manager and use Configuration Utility to start it it
runs and appears in Task Manager but does not show up in Configuration
Utility..

I have installed many ADS servers before, both Netware and Windows but this
is the first Internet based server.

Any help appreciated.

Best Wishes

Tony Hunt

Yes.

Well, RDC, that's the same I guess.

The server's in Germany.
I'm in England.
Don't have much choice I guess.

Best Wishes.

I've just noticed, on trying to start ads I get what appears to be a log
file eg.. c:\ adsdump-20070622-003614.dmp.gz

I'm sure this may be relevant.

However it is big. Nearly 6 megs.
Looks like 16 megs expanded.

Do you wish me to send it?

Best Wishes

Tony Hunt

Ahhhhhhhhhhh...
Paulo, Please ignore previous post.

God bless Google/Wiki

For those following this thread who also didn't know..

DEP = Data Execution Prevention

To change....
Go to
System Properties/Performance Options/Data Execution Prevention

Add ads.exe to approved list..

Perhaps Advantage should document this in future releases.

THANKS everone who contributed, I'll sleep miuch better tonight.

Best Wishes.
Tony Hunt
