Hello Community,

a customer gets error Message when trying to open database:

Internal database error Assertion failed: 201129
File is shorter than expected -- transaction rolled back.

He has no valid backup to restore from. The database is there but the log
file is gone and cannot be restored. There is no backup from database and
log. Is there a way to get it back to work.

When I look under Services the Adaptive Server Anywhere Service is not
started and cannot be startet. There is always an error message when i try
to start the service.

I read that the database can be started with an -f switch to start without
the .log file but it doesnt seem to work.

I hope someone can help me out.

You will need to contact technical support to get your database repaired (if
it is salvagable). Within North America, you can reach Technical Support by
calling 1-800-8SYBASE. If you are located outside of North America, you can
find the contact information for your local Sybase Support Center by going
to the Sybase home page at http://www.sybase.com, clicking on the "Support"
link at the top of the page.

Mark,

In addition to Jason's comments, be aware that our salvage service is a
billable service that is in addition to any associated support case
costs. Our salvage fee is $360/hr (USD), with a one-hour minimum cost.

Regards,
