Formats I have tried with same results "cannot open
dbsrv9.exe".
Navigate to Sybase\WIN32 folder use the following command"
dblic -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 5 dbsrv9.exe "Sys Admin"
"update license"
I have tried stopping the service, same results, even tried
the new format using dbsrv9.lic with the same results.
I can run this command inhouse using dblic 9.0.2.3456. I am
trying to update a client who purchased additional licenses.
Any suggestions. Thanks Stan...

Stan,

Which version is your client running? 9.0.2.3456 also? If your customer
is at build 9.0.2.3439 and higher, they have to license the .lic file,
not the executable. If they are lower, they should continue using the
executable file.

Are you positive the server isn't running? Check Task Manager and sort
by executable name - see if any of dbsrv9/dbeng9/dbmlsrv9 are running.

> cd "%ASANY9%\win32"

> dir dbsrv9.exe

Is it there? Make sure!

> dbsrv9 -v

9.0.2.3439 and higher?

> dblic -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 5 dbsrv9.lic "Your Name" "Your Company"

9.0.2.3438 and lower?

> dblic -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 5 dbsrv9.exe "Your Name" "Your Company"

*Note that the -u is the *total* number of users now licensed, not just
the number of additional licenses.

Regards,

Stan,

As you are likely aware, there has been changes made to how DBLIC works, in
that new .lic files are used to store the liscensing information, and has
been separated outside the executable files. This change has been
introduced in Version 9 in EBF 3439.

To update your liscences, according to the liscencing model that you
purchased, you can use the following commands:

In version 9.0.2.3439 and thereafter you need to use:
DBLIC -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 5 dbsrv9.lic "Sybase" "iAnywhere"

In version previous to 9.0.2.3439, you need to use:
DBLIC -l perseat -p WIN32 -u 5 dbsrv9.exe "Sybase" "iAnywhere"

In your post you are using 2 different versions, possibly you are
mismatching the two...

Chris

Hi Jeff & Chris,
Since client was running the earlier version 9.0.2.3004 and
remoting we could not see the service running. Client logged
in with Admin id and we were able to see and Stop the
service. The dblic run correctly now.
Thanks to both for quick response.
