I continue to get this error message, at first I thought it was a
networking issue but when attempted it from the server and I got the same
error message so I checked to see if the ADS service was running and it
was; stopped and restarted it and things work once I do that. But this
issue continues to happen all the time.

What is causing this issue? the server is running only windows XP SP2 and
the database, no additional software is installed.

Any explanation on why the service needs to be restarted every time?

thanks,

Tim,

The Advantage Service should not require a restart before allowing
connections. There is a lot of information about 6420 errors in the
Advantage Knowledge base. Hopefully that will help resolve the issue.

You could also try using the Server IP address and Port number in the
connection string. For example: \\ServerName:6262\Data
