Hi,

I would like to ask what happened with the distributed
application in PB10.

I am trying to convert my distributed application from PB6.5
to PB10 but the words are no longer recognized. Like the
word listen, transport, etc.. I tried reading the help file
and I can not find any reference to it also.

What happened to it? I hope to have your feedback soon.
Thanks

Neil

Ok, thank you. I should be too lazy to read release notes
and documentations.

Anyways, as I have now read thru articles and
documentations. I believe that distibuted approach are now
replaced with Web Service. I would like to ask again help
from you on how to get started with it. I will make a new
post about it.

Thanks,
Neil

PB8 was the version that DPB was removed.

The most common approach taken to overcome this is to convert the
distributed objects to EAServer hosted components.

Do I hear a 9 <g>. PB8 still had DPB although it was considered
obsolete... the actual transport object was removed in PB9 - but there
are still remants there that weren't removed (like ConnectionBegin
event on the application object).

I will save Chris some keystrokes and write his reply for him :)

Jim,
The worst mistake Sybase ever made was to remove DPB.
My apps run so fast and my customers were so happy with DPB because it
was free and my clients expect free stuff. The code is still there in PB
so why not reactivate it and let us use DPB again, eh?

Because other things have changed that DPB has not been tested with.
We had some serious trouble porting an application that made heavy use
of shared objects from version 7 to 9. I believe the version 7 version
is still running in production.

I believe the main culprit was database related code that wasn't
thread safe.
