"Warning: ASE identifier has a maximum length of 20 bytes for SQL
Debugger to work correctly"

Why does this restriction exist? Any system using decent naming
conventions is going to fail this condition on most of its stored procs.
Is it specific to ASE 12.5 or does it affect 15 too?

Thanks

G

Gareth,

This is a restriction (bug) in the ASE's debug API that is used by
WorkSpace. This is fixed in ESDs for both ASE 2.5.4 and ASE 15.0.

Assume you mean 12.5.4 - thanks.

Hi Mike

We've logged into our Sybase account to get the maintenance patches. It
seems we can get from 12.5.2 to 12.5.3 ESD #7 but it seems there's no
way to get us from that to 12.5.4 because the first ESD for 12.5.4
(#2)is only applicable to 12.5.4 itself.

What's the upgrade path?

Thanks
G

To install 12.5.4 you need to get the 12.5.4 full install from the SPDC.
If you do not have an ASE Windows License, there is no way to download
ASE 12.5.4 you would need to upgrade to 15.x to get the latest patches

I'm also seeing a 28 character limit in the Database perspective | Table
| Edit Data context menu, but of course ASE 12.5 permits 32 character

column names so this menu function breaks for some of our tables.

Gareth,

Can you please give me a better discription of how you were seeing this? I
was able to work with columns with names of 32 chars.

thanks,
