I am getting the following error on a few remote sites. Does
anyone know how to resolve this:

Error: Cannot Open file C:\lcos\db\mobilink_xxx.log

But when I look the file is there and is correct

Herman,

Which command are you running when you receive this message? Is it
trying to start the MobiLink server ([db]mlsrvX), MobiLink ASA
synchronization (dbmlsync), or...?

Depending on how the command is run, check the permissions on the file.
Can the user that's running the command (N.B. "LOCAL SYSTEM" if it's a
MobiLink "Local System" service) read/write to that file and all paths
leading up to it? (C:\, C:\lcos, C:\lcos\db, etc.?)

Are any other processes touching the file? (i.e. if it's dbmlsync, are
there any previous dbmlsyncs still running from the previous
synchronization attempt? mlsrv, are there any other MobiLink servers
running?)

You can use Microsoft's (previously SysInternals) FileMon tool (
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/filemon.mspx )
to see if anything else has a lock on that file.

Regards,

Please ALWAYS include version and MORE importantly BUILD number
with EACH post (dbeng10 -v).

I take it this is from running dbmlsync.exe.

It usually means dbmlsync is already running, or the GUI is up and no
one has pressed the "Shutdown" button before launching a new instance.

We have Mobilink client startup at database startup and on a
10 minutes schedule thereafter. Is there a way not to
receive this message without excluding a real log file?

How are you scheduling dbmlsync. ie. are you using SQL Anywhere's internal
scheduler or are you using an external or OS utility ?

If you using the internal scheduler, then there is only one instance of
dbmlsync so there should not be any issues with the log file. If you are
using an external scheduler, use -k switch to shutdown dbmlsync after it is
done synchronizing.

-k is deprecated now, use -qc instead.

I have a database event that starts Mobilink upon Database
Startup. I also have a Schedule defined with the
synchronization to run every 10 min. Whenever someone opens
the application they get a message stating they can't write
to the log file. This message displays several times
throughout the day. I need a method to get rid of this
message?

To 'get rid' of this message, you need to determine why you have have
multiple instances of ML running.

I addressed this specific point in the ML newsgroup.
Please do not cross post.

The MobiLink newsgroup is the correct location for these queries.
