I have a concern with record locking using DBF files with Clipper. I seem
to recall that there is a 1GB filesize limitation using the DNFNTX RDD. Can
anyone confirm or deny this? What are the limitations on filesize? This is
on ADS 7.1 using Clipper 5.2. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi Ed,

I believe that in v7.1, the maximum file sizes are 4 GB for each of the
DBF/NTX/DBT file types. The 1GB limitation that you are referring to is
probably the issue with compatibility record locking. If you use
compatibility locking mode, Advantage has to use physical file locks for
record locking. The offsets for NTX RDD start at byte 1 billion. So if a
DBF exceeds that size, those locks can interfere with the physical record
data. If, though, you are using proprietary locking, then there will be no
conflicts.
