We've discovered a change in behavior in how PB handles datetime columns
from PB 8.0.2, Build 9506 to PB 10.2.1, Build 9004 . The same issue exists
in PB 11.1, build 8123. Was wondering if anyone is aware of this issue and
has any suggestions. This assumes regional Windows settings for short date
is mm/dd/yyyy or m/d/yyyy. Setting the edit format or the format makes no
difference.

1) Create an external datawindow with a datetime column.
2) Using the preview pane in the DW painter, insert a row.
3) Enter the date 29/12/2008.
4) In PB 8 you get the message: Item '29/12/2008' does not pass validation
test. In PB 10 there is no message and it converts the date to 12/20/2029.

It has nothing to do with external dw's: the same thing happens with a
stored procedure dw too. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks, Harvey Kravis

Did you open a case for this? I think this is a bug, not a change in behavior.

If I go back into the field, the value is:

12/20/2029 00:00:00:2000633279

I have a format that hides the time portion.

PB 11.1 build 8123

I was trying to be diplomatic by calling it a change in behavior. I agree
it's a bug, but it used to work fine.

Thanks for investigating.

Check your regional settings for the date. I followed your steps below and
got the same results. As soon as I changed the regional settings on my
computer to dd/mm/yyyy (originally set to M/d/yyyy), it worked correctly.

No, his point is that it should have produced and error since 29 is not a valid
month.
Having users change to a non-standard (for the US) date format is not the
answer.
