I'm trying to forward replication, here is how it is setup using ADT.

Store 1 replicate to the main offices master database via the internet.
Forward Replicated Records is checked.
The master database then replicates to all stores via the internet (
including Store 1) and to the office database via Remote.
The replication get to the master database and to the local Office database
but not to any stores.
There is no error in the ADS_ERR log.
I can see the replication in each stores queue tables in the master database
for 30 seconds before they disappear, but no error and no record in the
stores table.
The tables in all stores are empty.

If I add a record in the Master database to the same table it get replicated
to all stores.

Any idea where they are going?

Hello Kim,
First of all, the connection type (remote or internet) doesn't matter to
replication. It just tells the server what type of connection to use when
performing replication updates. It should have no effect on the forwarding
of updates.

If there are no errors in the ads_err log at the master database server,
it sounds like the master is not forwarding updates to the stores. Make
sure the subscriptions defined in the master database have the Forward Replicated
Records option checked. This option only affects servers in the middle of
the replication chain. So it would have no effect at the store databases,
only the master & maybe the office depending on how you have it setup.

I'm a little unclear on how your replication is setup. If I didn't answer
your question, please describe a little better how many nodes you have &
how they are related with replication. Just show me what subscriptions you
have defined & between what nodes. For example:

Store_1 ==> Master (Forwarding OFF)
...
Store_N ==> Master (Forwarding OFF)

Master ==> Store_1 (Forwarding ON)
...
Master ==> Store_N (Forwarding ON)

Master ==> Office (Forwarding ON)

Hi Peter,

I thought that the first node in replication had to have Forwarding on for
it to rereplicate at the destination.
What I don't understand is why is it working on the Remote.

We have 7 stores replicating to the master (6 via internet and 1 via Remote)
the master then Replicates to the 7 stores.

Store1..7 (Forwarding ON) => Master (Forwarding ON) => Store1..7

So what you are saying is that I should only have forwarding on at the
Master.

Thanks,
Kim

Hello Kim,
Only the subscriptions defined at the master should have forwarding ON.
Having it on in the subscriptions at the stores will have no effect except
a little extra communication & work for the master database.

It sounds like the master is having trouble connecting to the stores with
the internet type of connection. Are there any replication errors in the
ads_err.adt log at the master? If the subscriptions at the master are setup
correctly, but the updates aren't getting to the stores, there should be
some errors in the log. You might try connecting with ARC from the master
to one of the internet stores just to make sure the server can connect with
an internet connection.

Hi Peter,

Last night I tried again and here is what I did.
On the master I delete all ADS_Err files.
First I change all stores ( I unchecked Forward replication)
Then I shut down the ADS in one store ( Store1).
Then I went to store2 and added a record.
Then I went to the Master and Store7 (which is local to the master) and both
had the new record.
None of the five stores had the new record and Store1 had a record in the
queue table waiting for a connection.
As soon I turned the ADS back on in store1 the waiting record disappeared in
the queue table, but no record shows in store1.
No errors in the ADS_ERR.ADT but some in the ADS_ERR.DBF
I made a copy of the queue table and the ADS_ERR.DBF if you want to see them
let me know where to upload them they are only 18kb.

To be sure all stores works I made one record in the Master and it
replicated to all stores.

Regards,
Kim Jensen

Hi Kim,
I'd be happy to look at your error log(s). You can upload them to our FTP
server at: ftp://ftp.ianywhere.com/advantage. An easy way to upload them
is to just copy that URL into Windows Explorer and then just drag the files
over into it. Please use a unique file or folder name as we get lots of
ads_err.dbf, ads_err.zip, etc.

Peter

I see a folder called EMP_Replication - I assume you created it? I am able
to drop files directly into it using this URL: ftp://ftp.ianywhere.com/advantage/EMP_Replication/.
If that doesn't work for you, you can just place the files in ftp://ftp.ianywhere.com/avantage.
There shouldn't be any naming conflicts right now. If that doesn't work,
I'll get some help from our support staff as they do this much more often
than I do.

Peter

Hi Kim,
I received the files on our FTP server. I'll try and deduce what the problem
is using the them. In the meantime, if there was also an ads_err.adt & ads_err.adm
file on the server please send those too. Also if there were any adsdump-20080401-xxxxxx.dmp.gz
files please upload those as well - these adsdump files will be our best
chance at figuring out what went wrong.

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Kim,
The error log has some interesting errors in it. First of all it has a 6610
which is a communications error (The Advantage Database Server did not respond
to a database request in a timely manner). This implies that the server
was able to connect to the target server (\\SBPLAZA...\ctouch\data\csi2.add
in this case), but later the connection failed. Maybe the network connection
between the two servers failed or maybe the target server was stopped or
had a problem. You might try using ARC to connect to the target server just
to make sure the connection information in the subscription is correct.

Another interesting error is the 9126. All 9000 class errors are internal,
unexpected errors. In this case the server wasn't able to find the replication
article for the "White Shared" subscription. I only know of one way this
can happen: Setup replication for a table, update the table so entries are
placed in the queue (but not processed immediately), then remove the table
from the publication. Later when the server attempts to process the queue
entries, it cannot find the table's article. It is possible the error was
caused by another sequence of events, but it implies that the replication
objects (subscription, publication, & articles) are out of sync.

Lastly there are some 7200 SQL errors caused by replication updates. These
are likely a side effect of the previous errors, but they also imply something
is wrong with your subscriptions & publications. This time it was the "Kenosia"
subscription that caused the error. Unfortunately the ads_err.dbf log cannot
store more information about this error. Usually the ads_err.adt file would
be used for this error as it can contain many more details, but it wasn't
in this case (probably due to the 9126 errors).

So, here are some steps I would advise you to take to resolve the issue:
1. Stop the server and delete all ads_err.* files. ADS will re-create them
with the first error it logs.
2. Delete the subscriptions & publications (especially any related to the
"White Shared" and "Kenosia" subscriptions). Also delete any lingering replication
queue tables that get left behind. These should be deleted when you delete
the subscription, but they might be left behind if there are entries still
in the queue. These are tables in the dictionary named "__White Shared"
& "__Kenosia" for example. Of course don't delete the queues of any subscriptions
you don't also delete.
3. Re-create the publications and subscriptions.

One more thing you should consider is upgrading to the latest ADS 8.10 release
(8.10.0.26), right now you're on 8.10.0.20. I know of at least one replication
bug that has been fixed since 8.10.0.20 so upgrading might help.

If you continue to have problems, let me know. There's a few more things
we can do to get more information about what is going wrong.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

The reason there was a 6610 was because I had stop the server in at SBPLAZA
so I could get you the query file when it was still in the query table. As
soon as I started the server at SBPLAZA the record that was in the file I
send you disappeared and the error log I send you is from after it
disappeared.

Any way I erased all Publications, subcriptions, deleted all tables,
installed the 8.10.0.26 version in all stores and the Master and exatly the
same thing happens.

I add a record in the stores table it goes to the main server where the
database for store 7 is as well and only the Master and store 7 get the
record. For the other stores I can see the record in the query table for
each store before they disappear, but no errors and no records in the remote
locations.
I can add a record in the master and it goes to all stores so the
comunication works.

What is the next step to get this to work?

Kim

Hello Kim,
I'm unsure about what is going wrong. It sounds like the master server isn't
forwarding the updates from the source store to the other stores. Since
you have forwarding ON at the master, there must be something else going
wrong.

The next thing to do is to send me a copy of your data dictionaries so that
I can try to re-create the behavior here. At this point I don't need any
of the data tables, just the .ADD and .AM files of one store and the master
dictionaries (with ADSSYS passwords of course). Please zip these files up
and upload them to our FTP server or email them to advantage@ianywhere.com
ATTN: Peter.
