Pylon Anywhere v8 claims support for Windows Mobile 6. But
with the latest 8.0.3, I still couldnt find "Windows Mobile
6 Client" in the folder.

I have tried using the WM5 client installation on the PDA,
every time during the sync session, when there is a change
to mailbox, the PDA will prompt me
"update were made during the sync session that require your
device to be reset. Choose ok to reset your device now or
cancel(X) if you want to manually reset it later."

And the PDA will restart itself if I didnt click the X.

We have purchased a few sets of HTC Touch Cruise to replace
the current outdated O2. Now I am in a fix.

HTC Touch Cruise
Windows Mobile 6 Pro. CE OS 5.2.1623
Pylon Anywhere 8.0.3

So the million dollar question is, did I missed out some
installation step? Or Sybase forgot to include the WM6
client pack?

Mr. Leong,

Windows Mobile 6 does not have a separate client. The Windows Mobile 5
client is the correct one to install.

Pylon Anywhere 8.x does support the Windows Mobile 6 platform. However,
as you know, every vendor feels the need to distinguish itself from the
pack, adding and tweaking features. No doubt this is why you felt the
need to replace the outdated O2.

Unfortunately, the vendors do not consult with us before making these
tweaks, and the result is often that Pylon Anywhere won't run on the
newest machines without an update. For this reason, we have a list of
supported platforms, and also a list of certified devices. The HTC Touch
Cruise is not on this list for 8.0.3 or 8.0.3 SP1. The behavior you are
seeing is consistent with what we have seen recently with other
uncertified devices.

If you are using the Systems Management or File Sync features of Pylon
Anywhere, you might try disabling these for your Touch phones. PIM sync
alone is somewhat less touchy about the changes in new phones. However,
if this doesn't help, or you can't do without these features, I'm afraid
you will have to wait for the next release.

As a temporary workaround, you could try having the users browse to:

http(s)://<servername>/webpim

This will bring up a version of the WebPIM optimized for viewing on PDAs.

I will let our Engineers know that we have had a request to certify this
device ASAP.

Finally, you may want to post Pylon Anywhere questions to
ianywhere.public.pylonanywhere.general, to ensure that the people
specializing in this product see your post, and it doesn't get buried in
more general messages.

Mike, Appreciate the prompt response.

We didnt use System Management or File Sync.

I have tried disable all the items under "Setting > What to
Sync" in PDA, but it still try to restart after sync.

Do you know of any possible tweak (besides webPIM), I cannot
afford to hold off the rollout of this new batch until next
update. Is it possible for the team to send me a separate
tweaked client?

Will cc this into ianywhere.public.pylonanywhere.general,
somehow it doesnt show here

WK,

I have asked Engineering to send me whatever they have. However, whereas
I would qualify the changes to the phones as "tweaks", the changes to
Pylon Anywhere require extensive investigation, development and testing,
so there is no guarantee that a client for the HTC Touch Cruise exists
in any form yet.

I'll let you know.

WK,

Since this is a public forum, I'll reply here so that others following
this thread can also see how it develops. Feel free to open a tech
support case if you need more direct assistance.

I have heard back from Engineering. They mentioned that there is a fix
for this problem, but they referenced an earlier issue, where this
behaviour is seen on an HTC TYTN II (also known as AT&T Tilt, T-Mobile
MDA Vario III, etc.). As far as I can tell, the Touch Cruise is not a
rebrand of the TYTN II, but perhaps it is affected by the same problem.
I have placed the PocketPC client for version 8.0.3 SP1 at
ftp://psaftp.sybase.com/pub/private/PocketPC.zip . (For anyone else
following this thread, note that this file will have a limited life span
on the FTP server.) You can try this client, either by dragging
PocketPC2005M2M\SyncClient_PocketPC2005M2M.cab onto the device and
executing it, or by running PC\setup.exe (if you want ActiveSync
support). You will need to go into the settings and enter your server
name and other connection data.

If the problem goes away, I would suggest downloading the full upgrade
for 8.0.3 SP1, to keep your server and clients at the same version.

Engineering also felt that the Systems Management workaround might still
apply. Apparently, even if you are not actively using System Management,
it is possible that that component has been installed on the PDA. Please
go into the Pylon Anywhere Admin Console, and open Profile Settings >
General > Client Install/Deployment, right-click on "Default" (or
whatever settings you use for this profile) and choose Properties. Under
Pocket PC, if you see an option for System Management, please uncheck
it, click OK, then restart the Pylon Anywhere server. Then reinstall the
client on the device.

Please let us know if either of these suggestions resolves your problem.

Regards,
