How important is it that the Release Number, found in a Datawindow when
viewing the source, be current? Why doesn't the Migration process update
it? Regeneration also does not. Do I have to manually open, change , then
save each DW to update it?

Each version of PB can parse all previous versions of datawindow syntax.
If you don't need to change anything I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Thanks Jeremy. This has been my experience too, until now.

Further research into this, I read in another post somewhere, by Chris
P.,that he would open each DW, change it, and save so that PB would update
the syntax to the latest version.

I am having some issues with DWs migrated form versions 7/9 to 11.2. Most
of the problems revolve around dates and decimals and I was wondering if I
had to open each one as Chris did and save it. In fact, I have tried this on
a number of DWs today and it appears to resolve the problems.

So, I am merrily on my way opening 3000 DWs and saving them. I was hoping
that there was an easier way.

Randy

Hi Randy,

Since the source for datawindow is ASCII (text) you can use some text
utility to find in directory/path/filenames with string to replace.

Such utility called UltraEdit can do this very nicely. I have been using it
for a couple years now it works great in mass changes across txt files.

Good luck.
