I am going through a situation where a blank DOS prompt shows up on windows
XP machines that have the Afaria client installed. The title bar on the
window reads C:\Program Files\AClient\Bin\XcRedirector.exe. The strange this
is that this executable (XcRedirector.exe) does not exist on the machine.

Anybody solved this one yet ?

What operating system are you running on your client? Also, have you
applied any specific hotfixes to your Afaria server? If it's the file
I'm thinking of, XCRedirector.exe should only be installed in certain
pretty unique scenarios.

The XCRedirector.exe is included in Afaria 5.5 SP1 Hot Fix 7. This file
provides new functionality for Outbound Notifications and how the Afaria
Client listens for Notifications.

<<<Excerpts from the ReadMe file (55SP1AfariaFx7.htm) >>>

What's new for Windows Client port consolidation?

This release enhances the Afaria Windows Client to allow you to consolidate
Afaria outbound notification traffic and Afaria Remote Control traffic onto
a single port. This feature is valuable for customers with Clients in an
environment with port restrictions.
A Client's default behavior of using separate ports for the different types
of traffic is in effect until you enable the consolidation

Enable port consolidation

1. Afaria Server TCP/IP outbound notifications are delivered to a Windows
Client's port 3005 by default. The Server stores the default value in the
Afaria database. Change the value to change the default port.

Afaria database table - A_Configuration_Property
DataName - NotificationPort
DataValue

3005 - Default. Afaria Server uses Client port 3005 for TCP/IP outbound
notifications.
3000 - Afaria Server uses Client port 3000 for TCP/IP outbound
notifications.
No other value is supported.

2. Configure your Afaria Remote Control guest Client to send requests to
Remote Control host Client port 3000.

Known Issues

. Redirector.exe DOS command window on Client, "Fail-No Listener" on
Server - Windows Clients running with a user interface may display a DOS
command window from the Afaria XCRedirector.exe service. Closing the window
stops the Afaria process from running. The Afaria administrator will observe
error "Fail-No Listener" when attempting to send an outbound notification to
a Client that is not running this process. The user may minimize the window
without causing any disruption to Afaria operations. [REF 20315 internal use
only]

. Upgraded service Client does not respond to outbound notifications -
Windows XP Client that is running as a service for 55AfariaFx66, and is then
upgraded to 55AfariaFx67, requires a manual reboot to continue successful
operations. [REF 20316 internal use only]
