Hi.

I'm using ASA 6.0.1 on a Windows 2000 laptop. Trying to get a dev
environment going so I can take it on the road. Problem I'm having is when
I disconnect my network cable from my laptop and I start the ASA server, I
get the following message "TDS (TCPIP) communication link not started" and
I can no longer communicate to the ASA server locally. If I start the
server first, then remove the cable, I can communicate to it just fine. I
tried setting MyIP and HOST to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) but it had no effect.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

David,

It should work as Rob mentioned, but maybe this will help. I know that W2K
has a thing called "cable detect" to check if it's on the LAN or not. You
could try turning this off and see if it helps. It's a registry tweak. Do
a MS Knowledge Base search on document Q239924.

Thanks guys. Tried the Registry change but it unfortunately it didn't do
the trick.

Is the upgrade from 6.0.1 to 6.0.4 free and if so, where can I find it? All
I saw were patches for 6.0.4 and when I tried to apply the latest I was
warned that the patch should only be applied to 6.0.4 so I didn't continue.

You have to apply the MR first and then the EBF. And given that the version
is old, you are going to have to expand the Timeframe beyond the default
range.

That's weird. I can run TCPIP on my laptop whether I'm connected to a
network or not.

I'd suggest upgrading to 6.0.4 with the last ebf (last since 6.x is
end-of-lifed) and see if the problem persists.

If you do still see the problem, then I would suggest posting the
question to the sybase.public.sqlanywhere.general newsgroup which is more
specifically focused on ASA/SQL Anywhere issues.
