I am using Powerbuild 9.x. I am thinking two things before I
can migrate it to PB 11.x.

1. Currently, my application is a traditional 2-tier
application. Whether PB 11.x has a kind of embedded object
to hold webpages (jsp pages) from the other web application.
The functionality of this embedded object is like IE or
firefox.

2. Is it difficult to migrate PB from 9.x to 11.x?

Thanks

Hi Joe,

For your question 1:
Yes, PowerBuilder 11/11.x can convert and deploy a traditional 2-tiered
win32 applicaiton to a standard ASP.NET WebForm application (*.aspx pages
and assembly Dlls), then the app can be launched in IE (currently only
support IE) from your IIS Server like this:
http://localhost/myapp/default.aspx
The conversion is based on your original PB Client/Server app, I am not
quite clear about your concept of "embedded object to hold webpages".

For your question 2:
To migrate from PB9 to PB11.x, you have two steps to go
(1) migrate to PB11.x win32 app, I guess unicode support might be the
part you need to do some re-coding or may have problems if you are heavily
using DBCS characters in your app. Since PB10, unicode suppport has been
added.
(2) convert from PB11.x win32 app to PB11.x .NET WebForm app. Because of
the architecture difference of C/S mode and B/S mode, some features are not
supported after converted to WebForm app like OLE control, runtime drag and
drop etc. Again, you need to do some re-coding if you are using such kind of
unsupported features in your C/S app.

I would recommend you to download a PB11.x evaluation version and migrate a
simple app, and experience how to deploy a webform app on site.

Thanks,
Maggie
