I am getting a Datawindow dialog popping up that reports :
Expression is invalid. Anyone know under what
circumstances you get this message. Also, we are seeing
this on some machines but not on others.

I typically saw that on Sort or Filter expressions, if I'd formed the sort
or filter string incorrectly.

If you run the app with the /PBDEBUG switch, then alt-ctrl-delete and kill
it when the dialog appears, the last line in the file will be the statement
that caused the popup to appear.

I have also noticed this when modifying printer settings for a
datawindow and the printer name contains an apostrophe (').

I suspect you could also get that in a validation expression or even a
computed field if specific data (nulls etc) made it invalid.

Or anywhere within a datawindow where you use an expression to set a
property (like 'visible') for a column.

What do you use to read the .dbg file that is produced? I
couldn't read it with Wordpad

I use TextPad as my text editor on Windows.

You can also use Terry Voth's PBLPeeper, which has a fantastic interface for
reading .DBG files. www.techno-kitten.com

I assume that you are getting this after the retrieve is done?
What version of PB, and what database?

FYIW, I see this when some data appears to have control characters in it...
I'm not sure if it is just oracle (with the oracle 10 driver) or applies to other databases.

wrote too soon; the problem I saw was something different. I had a find that got executed on retrieve end that had a quote in it
causing an 'invalid expression'
