I have a datawindow with a dropdown in it. The dropdown has a computed
column in it. In the datawindow painter, the dropdown populates just fine.
As a dropdown, in the running app, the dropdown also populates just fine,
and the chosen data is loaded into the parent column just fine but when you
click on the arrow to see the contents of the dropdown, you get a dialogue
box titled "datawindow" with the message "Expression is not valid." I
can't figure out what next step to take to try to isolate this. Any
suggestions?

TIA
LAS

That message is used for any expression, including validation, sort, filter,
not just computed fields. I wish it was more useful!
What version of PB is this on?
Can you post the SQL and the expression for the computed field?

I'm on PB 9. I finally recreated the whole thing, doing EXACTLY what I had
done before, as far as I can tell (as I mentioned the actual behavior was
fine). This time the annoying message disappeared. Thanks for your sanity
check.

I'm waving a dead chicken here, but I suspect previous versions of code
being pointed to. If something like this happens again, try optimizing the
pbls. In fact, it's considered good practice to optimize them once a week or
so anyway, and just before doing rebuilds.

Thanks for the tip. Will do. Actually, I've never optimized. I see where
to do it, but I don't know its purpose.

Optimizing a PBL is like defragmenting your hard drive. The biggest gain
in this is that fragmented libraries can sometimes develop pointers to
old or lost code. I have seen one set of code run and another set of
code displayed in the painter. Optimizing the PBL cleans up these
